Custom Dog Travel Crates

Custom Shipping, Travel, & IATA-Approved Dog Crates

Whether you’re traveling domestically or internationally by air, car, or train, ensuring your pet’s safety and comfort is a top priority. Our custom travel crates meet IATA regulations and are designed to provide a secure, well-ventilated, and comfortable space for your pet during transit. Let us help you build the perfect crate to suit your pet’s needs and travel requirements.

When Do I Need a Custom Dog Travel Crate?

A custom dog travel crate is essential when your pet’s size, breed, or travel requirements do not fit standard crate options. Airlines and other travel authorities have strict regulations, and a properly sized crate ensures your pet’s safety and compliance with these guidelines. If your dog is a large breed, has unique dimensions, or falls under restricted breed categories, a custom crate may be required.

Additionally, certain breeds have specific needs. Snub-nosed breeds require a larger crate to accommodate their facial structure and ensure proper airflow. Restricted dogs, such as those that fall under breed bans, may need a reinforced wood or metal crate for added security. Large dogs, measuring over 36 inches tall or 49 inches long, will also require a custom crate to ensure comfort and compliance with travel regulations.

IATA Dog Crate Requirements & Regulations

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animals Regulations (LAR) outline specific requirements for transporting animals safely by air. These regulations ensure the safety and well-being of animals during air travel. If you’re planning to transport a pet, it’s essential to check both IATA guidelines and airline-specific requirements.

Proper Sizing:

Your pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Crate dimensions are determined using the formula:

  • Length = Nose to tail base + half of front leg length
  • Width = Shoulder width x 2
  • Height = Floor to top of head or ears
  • Clearance = 2-inch clearance at the top, front, and back for standing pets

Material & Construction:

  • Crates must be made of durable materials like wood, metal, or synthetic materials. Plastic components are not allowed for reinforced crates.
  • The design must ensure safety, with smooth interiors to prevent injury and no protrusions that animals can bite or scratch.

Reinforced Crates (CR-82):

  • These are required for animals classified as dangerous or aggressive, such as certain dog breeds.
  • The crate door must be made of heavy wire mesh, metal, or reinforced wood, with secure fastenings.

Ventilation & Comfort:

  • Crates must provide adequate ventilation and space for the animal to move comfortably.
  • Food and water containers should be accessible without opening the crate.

Labeling & Compliance:

  • Crates must be clearly labeled with “Live Animal” stickers and meet the specific requirements for the species being transported.

Custom IATA-Approved Travel Crates for Oversized Dogs vs Restricted Breeds

The main difference between a custom crate for an oversized dog and one for a restricted breed is the additional security features required for restricted breeds.

Custom Crates for Oversized Dogs:

Designed to accommodate larger breeds that do not fit standard crate sizes. These crates provide extra space to ensure the pet can move comfortably while complying with airline regulations.

Custom Crates for Oversized Dogs:

Built with an added layer of security, these crates feature a reinforced secondary door to prevent escape. This extra door ensures that even if the first door is compromised, the dog remains securely contained, meeting CR-82 reinforced crate standards.

Please Note: We do not build crates for restricted or aggressive breeds. If you require a crate for a restricted breed, please consult with an airline-approved specialist for reinforced crate options.
